A SPIF and Wiki collaboration

Can one image have the power to change 1000 lives?

what is art4good?

art4good is a year-long campaign that aims to build a repository of artwork related to mental health and its various aspects.

Visual imagery in mental health related messaging can be a force for good. A single image can convey a “thousand words” and has the power to increase awareness, spur people to action and change opinions. Why is it then that most images used in mainstream media, social media and even well-meaning images used by researchers or organizations campaigning for mental health causing more harm than promoting any good? Images have a large influence on attitude formation and perceptions of viewers, but most images promote negative stereotypes reinforcing stigma, discouraging mental health conversations and hindering help-seeking.

SPIF, in association with Wikimedia Foundation, have launched a one year collaboration to help change this narrative around the use of images related to mental health.

We are curating artwork that helps and create awareness, break stigma, and promote dialogue around mental health. These artwork will be featured in articles on mental health that are published on Wikipedia and also available for free to download at Wikimedia Commons.
